neat little film…

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

My sister shared this film with me, and now I wanted to share it with you… it was made up entirely of Photographs… over 3000 photographs to be exact…

The guy who made it took photos over three days in Boston, and put them together in this film… it would probably best be considered an animation, since you are working with images frame by frame… the form of animation would be pixelation.

Watermark Program…

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

A thread on theBubbler.com asked if there are any free watermarking programs available…

Her was my response.

I’m not too familiar with any programs that are free, I personally use Photoshop for my watermarking, but that’s not always an option for most people.
I did a little research to answer this question, and I always thought that Flickr offered a watermarking ability, so I did a test. I couldn’t find anything obvious that says Watermark, but what I did find is that Flickr has partnered with something called Picnik and it is what appears to be a very powerful online photo editing tool. And if you look through the various tabs and options, they do have the ability to add text to your image. Which can be manipulated to be a watermark. And once it’s saved the text and the image are flattened, and anyone who downloads it or links to it, or saves it in any way will get the text watermark along with it…
And if you are not interested in posting on Flickr, I recommend utilizing their services, and you can always delete the photos after you’ve saved it to your computer (right click, save as…)

Play around with it, it looks fun…

And of course for all you Google fans, you can always try using Picasa, which past experience tells me is a pretty powerful tool, and it’s not associated with photo sharing like Flickr is. It’s worth a try.

Both options seem to be just as powerful as Photoshop is when it comes to manipulating your photos, and Picnik even has the ability to adjust curves and levels. And what’s nice about Picasa is that it works with your photos that were taken in the RAW setting, so you can manipulate the exposure levels and contrast levels as well.

Interesting for Reporters…

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

I just heard about this from Larry Jordan’s show Digital Production Buzz.

He talked to a guy who runs a site called HelpAReporter.com, and it sounds like it’s basically a way for reporters to find resources, somebody who does something interesting… or is an expert on something, can go and make themselves available on this site… so that reporters can find them.

It seems like an interesting concept and if someone has something interesting that they wanna share, it’s a great place to go.

Another thing mentioned in the same episode, albeit briefly was something that

More about Video on the Web…

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

I just read an article about how the future of entertainment is on the web… I’m sure I’ve written before about Hulu.com and how it’s a great way to get shows you’ve missed from a few of the bigger networks… but what I’m talking about goes beyond that.

Photos…

I had the opportunity to take some photos of Mark and Kim Verhein, a brother sister team from Church Metal

Below you will find the photos and see how the photos turned out… I shot the photos in front of a green screen, trying some photos using natural light, and some using studio lights. Then in photoshop I incorporated their logo in the background… I’m happy to share these photos, and show off how they turned out.

Finally, on the way out the door Mark and Kim even had the opportunity to buy a copy of my boss’ book WebForging: A Practical Guide to the Art of Forging Your Web Presence.
